On the road since 1560!
Windigo’s history can be traced back as far as 1560! In the mid-sixteenth century, an English explorer named Martin Frobisher began an expedition through the northern Canadian seas in search of the North West Passage. Navigating his way to the Arctic, Martin left his namesake to one of the most important bays in the Arctic, Frobisher Bay. Nearly four centuries later, Charles Frobisher, himself an adventurer and inspired by his ancestor’s feats, founded Windigo, a North American adventure tour operator.
Our team of passionate explorers has been running tours in North America since 1996, leading travelers through its grand open spaces, massive mountain peaks, dense forests, pristine rivers and endless deserts.
We have been guiding groups and traveling the continent for more than twenty years. Our professional guides are always eager to share their love for the outdoors with fellow adventurers!
Our Values
Artisan: We tap into our passion and expertise to design our own tours, provide most services ourselves, and scrutinize every last detail to control quality so that you can lay back and enjoy the show.
Innovators: inspired by living and working in the grandiose natural setting of North America, our curiosity pushes our exploration of the destination further to find new paths and new and better ways to travel.
Fun: People who use humor are more productive, less stressed, and happier. Fun is in everything we do.
Intrepid: We are not afraid of working hard and walking the extra mile to exceed expectations. We are solution oriented; we never settle or take no for an answer.
Team Players: above all, we’re a team and we show up for each other.
Respectful for Nature: We believe in sustainable travel where nature and the environment take center stage. We are committed to help protect and preserve the richness of our territory through education and meaningful experiences.
Trip construction guidelines
Nature takes center stage: being active and surrounded by nature is good for the mind and body: it improves mood and boosts energy. Our favorite recipe for the perfect trip.
A minimum of mileage: aligned with the slow travel philosophy with respect of the environment. We prefer to set up a basecamp in areas of lesser known routes in order to give a privileged access to North Americas backstage outdoors
A maximum of LOCAL small family owned accommodations where possible / local guides / meals cooked with local products / suggestion of local gift by our team, encourage local economy
One feel good action / changing life experience. We truly believe that a trip has more value when you take actions and make a difference.
An environment, social or economic cause to which Windigo will give back either in money or time and action
