Description

One of the lesser known regions in Quebec, and yet one of the most alluring, Outaouais is the ideal place for a winter tour.  This trip allows you to explore part of Canada’s immense landscape, covered with a layer of pristine snow.  Discover the region’s beauty via snowmobile, dogsled, snowshoes, or cross-country skis as you make your way through the boreal forests that white-tailed deer call home.  Housed in a charming, wooden lodge, relax in style after a day of activities.  The local food and, of course, the Spa, will be the cherry on your sundae!  This winter adventure is the ideal itinerary to uncover eastern Canada’s authentic wintery wilderness. This tour is the ideal winter trip to explore Eastern Canada, famous for its beautiful landscapes.

Itinerary

Day 01
Arrive in Montreal

Hôtel Delta **** or similar

After flying across the expansive Atlantic Ocean, your plane descends into the lively city of Montreal. Take a transfer to go to your hotel in Montreal. Enjoy some free time this afternoon to explore Quebec’s economic and cultural capital.

Day 02
Montreal / Duhamel

Auberge Couleurs de France***1/2

After a guided visit of Montreal on foot where you’ll uncover the city’s gems, leave the island and transfer to the Outaouais region. On the way, stop at a sugar shack for a traditional Quebec-style trapper’s meal in the heart of a maple tree forest. Visit the site and learn how maple syrup is made, the shining star of your meal! Afterwards, en route for the village of Duhamel. Check-in for five nights at the Auberge Couleurs de France, complete with incredible views of the frozen lake!

Duhamel - Fishing & Dogsledding

An exciting adventure awaits! This morning we begin with a half-day dogsled ride. As you approach the kennel, you’ll hear the dogs begin to bark with excitement, knowing it’s time for an outing. After a short lesson and sled preparations are in place, join your musher and his dogs as you glide through the snowy forest! This afternoon, try your hand at ice-fishing, a time-honored tradition in Quebec where you cut a hole in the ice and hope for biting trout!

Day 04
Duhamel - Massage & Snowshoeing

Enjoy a relaxing morning after a busy day yesterday: First up on today’s activity list is a massage at the Spa! Experience the Nordic style spa, alternating between hot pools or the outdoor sauna and the cold showers and relaxation room. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious, traditional lunch at the lodge. This afternoon don your snowshoes and off into the woods to explore the surrounding trails. Guided by a trapper, listen as he explains his trade and recounts tales of his local region. This is a great opportunity to observe wild animals. Keep your eyes open for white-tailed deer, typical in this region. Tonight, join in a night time campfire to roast marshmallows and enjoy mulled wine under the star-studded sky.

Day 05
Duhamel - Snowmobiling

Today we embark on a 100km snowmobile outing! After putting on your equipment and acquiring your snowmobile, a safety briefing and driving lesson will be provided. You’ll then embark and explore the surrounding trails, covered with endless forests dusted in snow. Experience total wilderness submersion away from the crowds.

Day 06
Duhamel - Free day

Auberge Couleurs de France***1/2

Enjoy a free day today to partake in any activities you’d like at your own rhythm. Snowshoes and cross-country skis are available should you choose to observe the local scenery and wildlife. Or, relax at the Spa on site. The world is your oyster! This evening, be serenaded by a local singers and their regional songs for your last night in Outaouais.
Optional activities: Visit Omega Park and have lunch at Château Montebello.

Day 07
Duhamel / Ottawa

Hôtel Le Novotel**** or similar

After breakfast, as our Outaouais journey comes to an end, we transfer to Ottawa in Ontario. Ottawa’s rich cultural history will amaze you! During winter Canada’s capital city is enchanting. The Rideau Canal transforms into an 8km long skate trail, right in the heart of the city. Watch as locals make their way to the shops, the movies, or even to work via skates! Visit the local museums, go for a walk on Parliament Hill, peruse the shops and boutiques, or eat your fill at a nearby restaurant or café. Cross the Alexandria Bridge over the Ottawa River and visit the not-to-be-missed Canadian History Museum to admire the world’s most beautiful collection of authentic First Nations totem poles and learn about Canada’s exciting history. Check-into your hotel for the night in Ottawa.

Day 08
Ottawa / Return to Montreal

Follow along the Saint Lawrence River as we make our way back to Montreal. Depending on your flight, you’ll either be dropped off directly at the airport or taken into the city for some free time. Visit the historic Old Port neighborhood and surrounding areas. Flight home.
